The Sample Management business unit of Evotec, a drug discovery solutions international organization, offers a range of services to help organizations build, grow, and/or manage small molecule collections to the highest quality in support of high throughput biological screening. Our facility is home to sample collections owned by governmental, not-for-profit, and commercial organizations. Our experience managing the U.S NIH’s Molecular Libraries Small Molecule Repository (MLSMR) as well as sample collections owned by academic and commercial organizations allow us to deliver optimal solutions for this critical function.
Evotec (US) Inc. has a Sample Management Lab Lead position available, located in a sample management department at a client facility in the Waltham/Cambridge MA area. The position requires a highly motivated individual, able to supervise and work independently to ensure the success of the team. This role will provide project management expertise and a single point of contact for the client, technical expertise as a subject matter expert in workflows, SOPs, and overall sample management and transparent communication to the project team as well as direct staff and laboratory supervision for sample management operations.
The samples may be potentially hazardous. Safety glasses, lab coats and gloves will be required while working. Client site specific training, automation, computers and any other material will be provided in support of sample management activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage domestic and international shipment of chemical and biological samples between sites and collaborators
Manual handling of incoming samples, including solubilisation, plating and powder weighing
Coordinate order fulfilment using a global ordering system of both powders and solutions including biological samples. Using liquid handling technology to create fulfil orders and create final assay plates
Manage data handling, inventory tracking, accurate record keeping and following Standard Operating Procedures for assigned tasks
In depth knowledge of automated liquid handling processes and protocols
Manages Lab Technicians of various levels
Prepares or requests required technical information needed for shipping (HTS codes, Finance forms, etc.)
Assists in registration of new chemical entities for library storage
Interfaces with screening team to facilitate rapid turnaround of compounds and data
Ability to manage reports across multiple locations. Ensure information flow as necessary.
Interact with management at all levels
Chemical Laboratory experience
Use of balances, fume hoods, and basic chemical handling procedures
Experience with automated liquid handling technology
DOT and IATA training
Good oral and written communications.
Follow oral instructions and written protocols.
Attention to detail, keep good records, works safely and to schedule.
Demonstrated interaction and communication with senior management
Experience managing a high throughput operation in HTS, sample management or a similar organization
Experience in biological sample handling workflows is a plus
Education and experience:
BS or higher with scientific discipline and 3+ years experience.
