ResponsibilitiesThe Cardiology Division is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to provide support to a team of PIs, postdocs, and PhD students and their research projects. Primary duties include:
•Assist with mouse experiments, tissue harvesting, tissue sectioning, light microscopy, cell culture, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy •Perform enzymatic assays of lipids and perform flow cytometry studies •Perform SDS-PAGE and western blotting •Perform ELISA assays, immunocytochemistry studies, and enzyme activity assays with radioactive substrates •Update animal protocols (with supervision), submit orders for animal purchases, and oversee the transfer of animals to-and-from UCLA
Qualifications•BS/BA in Molecular Biology or related field •Minimum 2.5 years of basic biomedical research experience •Experience in cell culture and cell transfections •Experience in animal handling, specifically with mouse colonies •Extensive experience with immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy •Proficient in performing high-quality western blots and SDS-polyacrylamide gels •Experience with ELISA immunoassays •Experience using basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometer, PCR machines, pH meter, balances, gel documentation) and experience with both PC and Apple computer •systems and software programs (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) •General knowledge of chemistry and meticulous preparation of reagents
