Dr. Jonathan Lipton, a principal investigator in the Department of Neurology and FM Kirby Neurobiology Center is seeking a full-time research assistant who will become an integral member of a friendly and exciting laboratory. We study the fundamental biology of circadian timing and its relation to neurological diseases. We take multidisciplinary approaches that include: molecular biology, CRISPR, biochemistry, cell culture, neurobiology, mouse genetics, and animal behavior to uncover novel fundamental concepts and emerging therapies.
The responsibilities of the Research Assistant I would be varied and include (though not be limited to): molecular biology, cell biology, live-cell microscopy, protein purification, animal behavior assays, genotyping, mouse husbandry and statistical analysis. For a motivated individual, there is ample potential for the design of a semi-independent research project. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with an interest in a future career in biological and/or medical sciences.
To qualify, you must have:
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Candidates should be highly self-motivated, organized, have strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic. An academic background in neurobiology, cell and molecular biology, mathematics, computer science, or engineering would be relevant, but not essential.
Previous experience with molecular biology or animal handling techniques would be a plus.
Preferable start date: May, 2021 with some flexibility.
