Summary Description: Columbia University Irving Medical Center Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the laboratory of Dr. Timothy Wang, Chief of the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases, Columbia University Medical Center, New York. Dr. Wang leads a team of investigators and the Tumor Microenvironment program that are exploring broadly the role of the tumor microenvironment in the activation of stem/progenitor cells and in promoting the growth of gastric, pancreatic, esophageal, colorectal and liver cancer. His lab was the first to show that overexpression of a single proinflammatory cytokine (IL-I beta) can induce cancer in a mouse (Cancer Cell 2008). His group also was one of the first to demonstrate roles for bone marrow-derived stem cells (BMDC’s) in contributing to gastric cancer, and his group has continued to explore roles for BMI)C’s as precursors of cancer-associated fibroblasts, myeloid derived suppressor cells and also dysplastic epithelial cells. In addition, his lab explores the role of nerves and neural signals in promotion the growth of solid tumors. Postdoc activities will include development and analysis of mouse models, flow cytometry, microscopy, and basic molecular biology techniques.
