The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) is seeking to hire a Research Assistant Professor to develop and sustain a vibrant research agenda in bioinformatics, specifically in the area of computational methods for big biomedical data analyses. This position is a non-tenure track promotion eligible, 12-month renewable position with an initial appointment term up to three years beginning in January 2021.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate research independence by serving as a Principal Investigator in successful extramural funding applications while working in interdisciplinary research settings.
The successful candidate will be involved in the full spectrum of educational innovations and strategic projects at the School of Engineering and Technology. All or part of the salary for this position is derived from sources other than state-appropriated funds.
Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to: experience in bioinformatics, cloud computing, software development, and data science; experience in bioinformatics open-source software development using Python, C++, Docker, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and function-as-a-service platforms; experience with design and/or refinement of analytical workflows for next generation sequencing data; experience working independently and in collaboration with a team, and experience in grant writing and working on federally funded projects.

Disseminate findings at national conferences and through journal publications
Develop accessible, reproducible, and performance optimized computational methods and software tools to support analysis of big biomedical data
Work with biomedical collaborators to customize analytical workflows for different types of high-throughput biomedical data
Support success of students with diverse backgrounds, especially from underrepresented in STEM
PhD or foreign equivalent in an area related to Bioinformatics such as Computer Science, Biochemistry, or Biology.
5+ years experience in writing and publishing journal manuscript(s) that report original research with a track record of publications in journals indexed by PubMed
5+ years experience in optimizing algorithms and software tools for bioinformatics applications
5+ years experience working as a collaborator with biomedical scientists on the design of software user interfaces that target a biomedical audience
5+ years experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
1+ years experience in teaching
