Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering

Under the direct supervision of the Engineering Technician III, the incumbent will support faculty and staff within the Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering department. The position will be required to monitor, maintain and repair equipment within faculty labs located in the Technology Research Center (TRC) and the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building (ILSB).
Specific duties include:
Orders and assembles equipment and lab supplies for departmental faculty and staff
Observes instruments and equipment to detect apparent malfunctions. Under supervision, takes measures to repair malfunctioning equipment to continue performance for faculty/staff in labs
Assists in assembling, installing, and repairing electromechanical instruments and equipment by performing manual tasks following specific directions from supervisor and/or vendor
Tests and repairs simple instruments, such as volt meter, PH meter, water flow meter, calipers, to insure operational readiness of the equipment
Researches and purchases lab equipment/supplies/instruments for faculty (as requested) in support of faculty research and/or instruction.
Performs other duties as assigned
This position may work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions and wear and work in personal protective equipment.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required and two years in non-professional technical work in engineering or an allied area.
The incumbent must be able to: follow verbal and written instructions; to operate basic equipment according to standard safety practices; to use personal computers; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; and to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 lbs.
Working knowledge of applied arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry.
Ability to compute simple engineering data
