Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking multiple Laboratory Assistants for the Department of Neurosurgery at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The main purpose of the Laboratory Assistant is to assist senior researchers in laboratory work towards 2 specific projects: 1) discovery of drugs for the prevention of epilepsy, and 2) studying the same drugs within the context of cell proliferation in cancer. This position will be highly supervised by senior researchers who will train the lab assistant to do specific experiments. These researchers will also oversee the continuation of these experiments with the goal of collecting meaningful data on various therapeutic compounds in order to develop new therapies for epilepsy and cancer.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Follow the training and guidelines put forth by the supervisor.
Culturing cells consistently to obtain reproducible results from drug treatment.
Determination of IC50 values of novel therapeutic compounds.
Extracting DNA from cells and tissue for subsequent hydrolysis and analysis by mass spectrometry.
Experiments will need to be performed consistently with a specific schedule set forth by the supervisor.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or other appropriate laboratory science.
Experience doing research in a biochemistry, molecular biology of other biological sciences lab.
Weekend and evening work may be necessary.
