The mission of the University of Washington’s Center for Research in Reproduction and Contraception (CRRC) is to understand the basic biology of the male reproductive system and to put this knowledge to use in solving clinical problems related to infertility and contraceptive development. The purpose of our research is to develop male contraceptives and treatments for male infertility. The Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition in the Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (60% FTE) Research Scientist/Engineer 1. The Research Scientist 1 will support the research and development of male contraceptives, and the research and development of treatments for infertility. Research studies are performed and conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Stephanie Page, within the CRRC at the University of Washington Campus. Major duties and responsibilities The Research Scientist’s duties will be focused on generating data, using a variety of techniques that will support scientific investigation, publications and grant funding applications focused on the development of male contraception and potential methods for treating male infertility. Major duties will include performing seminal fluid analysis using the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria and maintaining CLIA standards in this reporting. In addition, the individual may perform radioimmunoassays (RIA), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), processing and interpretation of data processing blood and tissue samples, as well as reporting experimental results and laboratory progress at laboratory meetings. Other responsibilities include performing administrative duties such as purchasing, data entry, and filing, keeping careful and accurate laboratory records, maintaining laboratory equipment, performing quality control diagnostics to ensure that the lab maintains Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards for diagnostic testing of human samples.
