Job Summary/Essential Job Functions: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position works as a member of a research team studying obesity, inflammation, metabolism, and cancer prevention. Duties entail general laboratory oversight, conducting experiments using standard physiological techniques, and analyzing, recording, and preparing reports/graphs of experimental data from experiments using mouse tissues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the design/optimization of assays.
Contributes to the development of protocols/standard operating procedures for laboratory techniques, such as mouse handling, tissue isolation and basic idea of flow cytometry, DNA and protein isolation techniques, and cell culture procedures.
Analyzes data with the use of statistical analysis tools.
Constructs graphs and reports from collected data.
Orders lab supplies and maintains inventory.
Participates in training required for lab safety and small animal handling.
Checks on lab animals periodically.
Oversees equipment service inspections and performs regular inspections of sensitive equipment.
Conducts presentations at local conferences, as necessary.
Assists Pharmacy/graduate students with basic lab techniques, as needed.
Performs other related duties assigned.
