Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IV with the Waksman Institute of of Microbiology. The position is within a laboratory that conducts fundmental biomedical research investigating molecular mechanisms of growth and morphogenesis. The purpose of this position is to assist the research efforts of the lab. This involves performing scientific research experiments under the direction of the supervisor or senior scientists within the lab, and also performing administrative and support tasks necessary to effective operation of the lab, such as inventory, ordering, and maintaining laboratory cultures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs scientific procedures in support of lab research, such as transfection, western blotting, animal dissection, immunostaining.
Performs technical tasks in support of lab research, such as making lab reagents, autoclaving glassware.
Collects data on complex scientific instrumentation, including LiCor Odysseey and confocal microscopes.
Demonstrates and explain various laboratory techniques to laboratory personnel, students and others.
Maintains insects, animals and/or bacterial and tissue cultures for experimental purposes.
Performs administrative tasks in support of lab research, such as ordering, inventory, and maintaining databases.
Acts as a point of contact for administrative, business and lab safety issues
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in the biological sciences or related fields.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and experience with fundamental molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning and PCR.
Knowledge of and experience with fundamental histology techniques including tissue fixation and antibody staining.
Two (2) years experience as a laboratory technician.
Knowledge of transfection for working with cultured cells.
Knowledge of and experience with Drosophila genetics for conducting experiments with Drosophila.
