Northwestern University is seeking a temporary Part-time Research Technologist 1 for the Chicago campus.
Temporary Job Description:
Conduct experimental research lab work. Assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). Completes mathematical calculations, &/or computer tasks &/or assists in judging validity of data. Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical & Good Laboratory Practices.
Following overall research objectives, independently designs, plans, conducts and troubleshoots experiments.
Evaluates protocols and data obtained from groups of experiments and recommends changes to processes, procedures and techniques to improve quality and validity of results based upon overall project objectives.
Using an advanced level of skill, completes the following activities: DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression, Southern, Northern, Western blotting, PCR, RT-PCR, Cell culture, cell isolation, Functional studies, Transfection, Flow cytometry
Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data.
Manipulates, interprets &/or presents results
Prepares charts & graphs for presentations & publications.
Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
Tracks & summarizes lab supply expenses.
Verifies accuracy of invoices.
Orders &/or maintains inventory of reagent, mice &/or lab supplies.
May train students.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Basic statistics skills.
High level of organization and multitasking skills.
Diligent and can work independently
Experience working in a molecular biology laboratory.
Master’s degree or equivalent in molecular biology.
MS Office suite 2013 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
