A Post-Doctoral Associate position is available in the recently established Gehara lab (www.marcelogehara.org ), Department of Biological Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark, to work on: 1) Historical demography and comparative phylogeography of amphibians and reptiles from the Seasonally dry forest (Caatinga) in Northeastern Brazil. 2) Genomics of whiptail lizards across contact zones and elevation gradients in the Caatingabenvironment. Location: The position is based at Rutgers University-Newark, NJ, USA, and is for one year, renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance. The proposed starting date is January 2021, but it is negotiable. Project Responsibilities: The Post-Doctoral Associate will gather data in the field and in the lab, run data analysis and write resulting manuscripts for publication. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the lab activities, collaborate with other lab members, and participate in scientific meetings and conferences.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. by the start date and should have a strong record of scholarly publications and scientific presentations. The ideal candidate should be interested in and have previous knowledge of population genetics/landscape genetics/bioinformatics, and should have experience with analysis of genomic data at the population level. The candidate should be able to carry out field expeditions (if necessary) and lab work independently. Data analysis and writing will be done in collaboration with the PI. Basic knowledge of computer programming like R, Python, C, C++ is a plus. However, interest in working with either or both R and Python is a must. Previous field experience in South America and knowledge of Caatinga's herpetofauna is also a plus.
