Research Specialist I- Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Regular; Full-time Paygrade 35
The Kivlin Lab is seeking a highly motivatedindividual to join the laboratory as a Research Specialist. This key teammember will assist with field- and lab-based research experiments, as well asday-to-day lab management. The Kivlin Lab studies how interactions amongmicroorganisms, plants, and soils affect ecosystem carbon and nutrient cyclingfrom local to global scales. Our laboratory is a stimulating and collaborativeenvironment engaging in cutting edge microbial and ecosystem ecology. Therewill be excellent opportunities to learn molecular, physiological, biogeochemical, bioinformatic, and modeling techniques.
Dutiesand responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
1.Perform experiments to supportongoing research projects.
2.Analyze,plot, and present experimental results.
3.Maintain live plant populations and fungal cultures forresearch experiments.
4.Prepare growth media and solutions.
5.Supervise and mentor undergraduate student researchers.
6.Organize lab inventory, supplies, and orders.
Techniquesused in the lab include:
1.General molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction,PCR, gel electrophoresis).
2.DNA sequence analysis and visualization using computationalprograms (e.g., Geneious, R, QIIME2)
3.Microscopy: Staining and imaging for light microscopy.
4.Field ecology: Collecting plants and soils from the wild forlaboratory-based experiments and molecular research.
5.Biogeochemistry: Analysis of microbial growth, biomass, and soil Cand N concentrations.
Training willbe provided for the necessary laboratory techniques.
