The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, with funding from the Empire Innovation Program of The State University of New York, seeks a leading scientist for appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Empire Innovation. The Department is seeking to grow our faculty expertise and federally funded research programs in the development of biologically-based drug delivery systems.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (http://pharmaceuticalsciences.buffalo.edu) is strongly research-oriented, with 20 faculty members from diverse scientific disciplines who share common interests in discovering, developing and optimizing drug therapies. Our research and graduate education programs span diverse aspects of small molecule and protein drug discovery and development through multi-disciplinary research in experimental therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mathematical modeling, drug delivery, drug metabolism and transport, pharmacogenomics, systems pharmacology, and drug analysis.
This position falls within the domain of Translational Biomedical Research, focused on engineering biologically-based drug delivery vectors (viruses, bacteriophages, mammalian cells, liposomes / exosomes, antibodies) to facilitate the development of novel therapies for human disease.
In this position you would be expected to develop a research core to facilitate the development of biological drug delivery systems, establish collaborative projects with UB faculty (e.g., to develop and apply biological drug delivery systems within preclinical and translational drug development programs), develop external collaborations with leading scientists (including, but not limited to, leading scientists within the SUNY system), to submit grant applications for extramural support (as principal investigator), and to facilitate the submission of grant applications for extramural support (as co-investigator / collaborator). You would be expected to also broaden our existing partnerships with Industrial Consortium Members of our Center for Protein Therapeutics to support research relating to the application of computational modeling to guide the development and clinical evaluation of biologically-based drug delivery systems.
Anticipated targets will be assessed on an annual basis, and include: 2 new collaborations/year and submission of 4 applications for extramural support/year (as PI or Co-I). You are also expected to contribute to multi-center collaborative projects (e.g., NIH P-series and U-series, as well as T32 training grants) within 5 years of your initial appointment. The new faculty member will be required to submit an annual report addressing specific assessment criteria, and meet annually to discuss progress and plans with the Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Successful junior candidates must have a PhD or other doctoral degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical sciences, or engineering and have completed postdoctoral training in a relevant field.
More experienced candidates should demonstrate an established record of excellence in scholarly activity, particularly peer-reviewed extramurally-funded research, and interest in interacting/collaborating with other academic and research programs.
