Assistant/Associate Professor of Plant Genetics, Plant Biochemistry or Plant Molecular Biology. The Departments of Plant and Environmental Sciences and Family & Consumer Sciences at New Mexico State University is seeking to fill a 9 month, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position. The position will be split between the tenure department, PES (60%), and the FCS department (40%). Collaborative research will occur with faculty in both department. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative applied and fundamental research program that integrates plant genetics, plant molecular biology and development of plant-based functional foods.
Contribute to the instruction needs of both departments by teaching two courses per year for FCSC (such as postharvest technology and functional foods), and one course per year for PES (such as genetics, applied bioinformatics, or plant metabolism). .
A Ph.D. in plant science, plant genetics, plant biochemistry, or related discipline is required with a strong background in plant genomics, plant biochemistry, or plant molecular biology. Demonstrated excellence is required in transdisciplinary research that integrates emerging technologies in two or more of the following areas: plant genomics, plant metabolomics, plant molecular response to biotic and abiotic stresses, plant secondary metabolism, plant biotechnology, plant bioactive compounds, plant nutraceuticals, development of functional foods, or enhancing plant nutritional value via metabolic engineering to improve bioavailability of phytochemicals beneficial for human health.
