RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE , Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research , to provide comprehensive technical support for an ongoing single-cell technology development project under the supervision of a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Philip A. Sharp . Existing single-cell sequencing methods focus on protein-coding genes, but overlook other categories of RNA, which play critical role in cellular structures and functions. Understanding the regulation of non-coding RNA in single-cells can provide insights on fundamentals of gene regulation in health and disease. This technology development project sits at the interface of molecular biology, biochemistry, and chemistry. Will assist in a wide array of experiments to develop and optimize the new methodology. Responsibilities include executing and optimizing ongoing experiments; analyzing results and designing follow-up experiments based on the results; presenting findings and insights at group meetings; recording and organizing data generated from the experiments in a clear, concise, and accessible format; culturing cells of murine embryonic stem cells and various cancer cell lines; and processing cell materials for preparation of RNA sequencing libraries and preparations of next-generation sequencing libraries.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : high school diploma or its equivalent; knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures; experience with lab techniques, including cloning (including TOPO and restriction cloning), western blotting, PAGE, reverse transcription, and quantitative PCR; next-generation sequencing experience, either in an academic institution or industrial setting; strong problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-motivation; and a commitment to producing high-quality work. PREFERRED : bachelor's degree; basic understanding of Illumina sequencing technology, fluorescent microscopy, and flow cytometry; and familiarity with computational languages such as R and Python.
