Position Summary: The Dismukes lab in the department of Chemsitry and Chemical Biology has an immediate position for an engineer to design and develop: 1) electrolyzers and electrochemical reactors for converting gas to liquids/solids using electricity; 2) catalyst testing and integration with electrodes and novel counter electrode reactions and semiconductors; The individual will join a team of scientists/engineers working on electrocatalyst synthesis, characterization and integration with conductors and semiconductors/photoabsorbers. Preferred backgrounds include instrument design and building, engineering physics, materials science and analytical chemistry. Opportunities are available for exceptional candidates with strong publication records who are highly motivated regardless of their specific area of expertise. Funding for this project is provided by RenewCO2 through support from the Department of Energy Small Business Innovation Research and National Science Foundation Small Business Technology Transfer Programs. Minimum Education and Experience: Phd in physics, physical or analytical chemistry or engineering physics, materials science Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Preferred backgrounds include instrument design and fabrication, electrical design, materials properties, instrument control, analytical measurements. Computer simulations Physical Demands and Work Environment: Daily Laboratory work moving between benches, hoods, clean rooms and between buildings.
