The University of Toledo seeks a Research Assistant Professor to conduct research to further understand the complex chemical reactions involved in metabolism, oxidative damage and its impact on disease development. Develop and design processes to synthesize modified nucleic acids to further the study of disease etiology the treatment of viral disorders. Develop methods for the use of modified DNA and RNA substrates to determine oxidative damage processes, degradation products and detection of identified substrates in biological samples. Liaise between collaborators, laboratory students and staff members in research. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Medicinal & Biological Chemistry. Perform service duties in the Shimadzu Laboratory for Pharmaceutical Research Excellence including oversight of instrument acquisition.
The Research assistant Professor will supervise five graduate research/teaching assistants. These are students who are also employed as research and teaching assistance.
Requirements include a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry or related field.
Two years’ experience in the theory and use of mass spectrometry and organic chemistry, especially in the area of nucleic acid synthesis and manipulation and experience in synthetic Organic Chemistry and Bioanalytical Chemistry.
