POSTDOCTORAL POSITION - Vascular Biology/Oxidative stress/Ionchannels
A PostdoctoralFellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Helena Parfenova,Department of Physiology, University of Tennessee Heath Science Center, to study the effects of oxidative stress on thephysiological functions of cerebral vessels. We use neonatal pigs as aclinically relevant large animal model of cerebral vascular disease andblood-brain barrier disruption caused by epileptic seizures andhypoxia-asphyxia. We place particular emphasis on endogenous antioxidantcytoprotective mechanisms in the neonatal brain. We combine intravitalmicroscopy of the brain vasculature with cellular-molecular studies in cerebrovascular myocytes, endothelial cells, and astrocytes toidentify the mechanisms of neurovascular survival during oxidative stress.
Experience withcellular-molecular biology, confocal microscopy, blood-brain barrierpermeability, and mechanisms of cell death is preferred.
