The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the âœgo-toâ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.
Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.
We are currently looking for a Senior Bioinformatician to manage requests for analyzing Next Generation Sequencing data and contribute to our analysis pipelines as we expand our sequencing capacity. The Nucleic Acid Technologies Core is a service group that specializes in providing sequencing services, data management and analysis support to GTP scientists. This role will lead the data science/analysis functions of the next generation sequencing data generated by the NAT-Core.
As a Senior Bioinformatician, you will collaborate and consult with internal scientists on the analyses of Next Generation Sequencing data. You will provide bioinformatics support including design and data analysis for projects to support and contribute to scientific peer reviewed publications. You will provide leadership and mentorship to the technical team for the experimental data analysis in assay development, troubleshooting, and sustaining support of existing pipelines. Also, you will keep up-to-date with relevant algorithm and software developments in the field, implement best practices in collaboration with NAT-Core leadership and bioinformatic resources and manage the pipeline development process.
Additional responsibilities include providing bioinformatics service, training and support to projects to GTP staff; manage and grow GTPâ™s computational infrastructure as needed.
Master's Degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or equivalent and 5 years of relevant experience working on bioinformatics projects in genomics, specifically next generation sequencing analysis. Ph. D. strongly preferred.
A comprehensive understanding of biology and the application of bioinformatics methods in experimental design, assay qualification, and quality control is a must!
Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, matrixed environment.
Proficiency in programming languages such as python, C, R, Perl, Java, etc.
Demonstrated experience in developing methods for analysis of experimental data in genomics and Next Generation Sequencing, with broad knowledge of bioinformatics algorithms, tools, and statistical methods.
Strong UNIX/LINUX/HPC skills is required.
