There currently is a position available in the lab of Dr. Michael Holinstat for a Research Laboratory Specialist Lead in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. The position is for an experienced senior scientist to work in a vibrant research environment focused on basic, clinical, and translational research in the area of cardiovascular medicine. The lab functions in a collaborative work environment with access to all of the state-of-the-art equipment in order to gain a greater understanding of signaling in the platelet, hemostasis and thrombosis in the in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo setting in both human and mouse models. The project will utilize the following equipment located in the lab: 1) upright and inverted intravital, confocal, and fluorescent microscopy, 2) aggregometry, 3) flow cytometry, 4) western blot electrophoresis, and 5) PCR.
The position will include:
lab managerial responsibilities
train and develop team members, students and postdocs
make decisions on equipment purchases
help to resolve conflict within the lab
assure preparedness for lab inspections
act as liaison with internal and external agencies
develop, advance, and take the lead on one or more research projects in the lab
make formal presentations of research findings at national conferences
write portions of research proposals and independent articles, and co-author articles
PhD in pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology or physiology
Minimum of 6 years of related research experience conducting high impact research, mentoring junior researchers and oversight of research projects involving diverse approaches including microscopy (both in vivo and in vitro), flow cytometry, protein chemistry (western blot analysis), and working with blood cells
Familiarity with mouse models, and be willing to focus on both human and mouse vascular questions related to hemostasis and clotting with a special emphasis on the platelet
Familiarity with in vivo or ex vivo microscopy
