The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the School of Medicine.The Department's 18 divisions include Academic General Pediatrics, Child Development & Community Health; Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology; Cardiology; Dermatology; Dysmorphology; Emergency Medicine; Endocrinology; Gastroenterology; Genetics; Genome Information Sciences; Hospital Medicine; Infectious Diseases; Neonatology; Nephrology; Pharmacology & Drug Discovery; Rehabilitation Medicine; and Respiratory Medicine.
Under supervision, the Staff Research Associate will independently perform molecular biology experiments and maintain mouse colonies. Techniques include purifying DNA and RNA; preparing low input RNA-seq and ATAC-seq samples (or other high throughput sequencing based samples); prepare and quantify DNA libraries for sequencing, perform quantitative PCR; Assist in preparing samples for FACS.
Mouse work will include setting up breedings, PCR genotyping, setting up experiments using a hyperoxia chamber, mouse injection, dissection, and isolating mouse macrophages populations. General laboratory activities will include ordering, trouble shooting experimental design and equipment, attending lab meetings, and maintaining a safe work environment according to EH&S, state and federal standards.
Theoretical knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology or related field, as typically attained by a Bachelor's Degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Practical background with demonstrated ability in mouse colony management, genotyping, and minor animal procedures, such as IP injection and gavage techniques.
Demonstrated experience in molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA purification, RT-PCR, and electrophoresis.
Proven experience in library preparation for Illumina Next Generation sequencing, including RNA seq and ATAC-seq. Demonstrated ability to quantitate libraries with accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to work with a large number of samples with accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to take direction, be detail oriented and follow step-wise instruction. Demonstrated ability to calculate and prepare dilutions.
Proficient ability using computer application software, including Office, Word and Excel.
Experience in general laboratory housekeeping procedures including maintaining inventory and equipment, ordering supplies, preparing solutions, maintaining cleanliness and safety in a laboratory setting.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with P.I., supervisor, postdoctoral scholars, and other members of the research group.
