RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE 1 , Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research , to join the laboratory of Phillip A. Sharp. Will provide technical support for an ongoing interdisciplinary project at the forefront of cancer research under the supervision of a postdoctoral fellow. This is a technology development project at the interface of molecular biology, biochemistry, and chemistry. Will assist with experiments supporting research in the development of novel single-cell technologies. Responsibilities include executing and optimizing ongoing experiments; analyzing results and designing follow-up experiments based on the results; presenting findings and insights at group meetings; recording and organizing data generated from the experiments in a clear, concise, and accessible format; culturing cells of murine embryonic stem cells and various cancer cell lines; and processing cell materials for preparation of RNA sequencing libraries.
REQUIRED : a high school diploma or its equivalent; exposure to general laboratory practices and procedures; excellent problem-solving and organizational skills; self-motivation; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and a commitment to producing high quality work. PREFERRED : bachelor's degree; experience in a laboratory environment and with techniques that include cloning (including Topo and restriction cloning), western blotting, PAGE, reverse transcription, and quantitative PCR; basic understanding of Illumina sequencing technology, fluorescent microscopy, and flow cytometry; familiarity with computational languages such as R and Python; and next-generation sequencing experience either in an academic institution or industrial setting.
