University of Kentucky
Department Name: 7H180:Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry Job Summary: A scientist II opportunity is available in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Kentucky to investigate the role of insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE or insulin) in metabolizing insulin and the Abeta peptide that causes Alzheimer’s disease. In addition endogenous activators of IDE will be identified, as will new IDE substrates. The applicant will use cultured cell transfection, advanced microscopy techniques, various activity assays, and subcellular fraction to investigate the mechanism of subcellular localization of IDE and the role of endosomal IDE in degradation of insulin and Abeta. In addition, the applicant may participate in trapping and identification of endogenous IDE actvators as well as discovery of new IDE substrates using trapping and peptidomics approaches. The applicant will be responsible for devising and implementing experimental protocols, data collection and analysis, leading or contributing to writing of manuscripts , contributing to grant applications and lab operations, and helping to managing technical staff involved in the project. The ideal candidate should have: Experience working with mammalian cell culture and techniques for cell transfection and transduction. Need the ability to work with proteins and conduct and analyze enzymatic assays.
