The Janowitz Laboratory at CSHL is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and interactive post-doctoral fellow with strong skills in molecular biology and analytical methods, as well as an interest in cancer biology, endocrinology, and immunology. We are in the process of building a team to research the host’s response to cancer, with the vision to deliver new treatment strategies and to discover fundamental biological interactions between organ systems. We are currently investigating the effect of systemic metabolic alterations in cancer on the immune system.
We are looking for candidates interested in developing their own research question in alignment with the interests and skills present in the laboratory and institution.
The selected candidate will be provided access to state-of-the-art laboratory space and the opportunity to discuss science in a relaxed but intensely focused atmosphere. Opportunities to learn about advanced microscopy, genetic engineering, and new sequencing techniques for detecting somatic mutations and transcriptional signatures, and data visualization will be provided. The option to learn about translational research will be provided.
Education: The applicant is expected to be in the process of completing or have recently completed a PhD degree in cancer biology/biochemistry/biophysics/immunology or related areas.
Experience/Skills: The candidate must have a deep understanding of the requirement to test hypotheses experimentally to advance scientific knowledge. The candidate should have a strong background in molecular biology and an interest in cancer biology and physiology. Sound knowledge of metabolism, essential biochemistry, endocrinology, and immunology is desirable. Experience in R programming or biostatistics is beneficial, but not essential. We use animal models for research and, therefore, experience and willingness in handling animals is important.
To be considered candidates must also apply for this position via the CSHL website at: http://cshl.peopleadmin.com/postings/16323

About Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Since 1890, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has been a global leader in research and education. The international scientific community at CSHL provides a unique and stimulating atmosphere for doctoral research?an environment where students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty work side-by-side. The Watson School of Biological Sciences (WSBS) was founded on the belief that with well thought-out mechanisms, enthusiastic involvement of faculty, and highly motivated students, an innovative curriculum could be provided that would allow students to earn a doctoral degree in a shorter time than in traditional programs without compromising the quality of their training. The curriculum is designed to train students to become scholars and independent thinkers.
