JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assignedsupervisor, this position works within the Microbiology, Immunology, andBiochemistry Department (MIB) to assist with a variety of experimentalprocedures, collect and log experimental data, and work with mice and tissuesthat have antivirals.
Assists with the isolation of viruses from tissue samples collected in the field and analyses of samples collected.
Supports field specimens, virus isolation, and isolation and sequencing of viruses or rodent genomes.
Helps conduct a variety of lab procedures such as screenings for antibodies in blood, DNA sequencing, RNA isolation, and routine molecular biology.
Enters data results into software programs.
Works with rodents and conducts live trapping of rodents.
Aides with euthanizing animals. Records animal's specific identity, sex, age, class, reproductive condition, weight, general health, and other identity markers.
Freezes tissue samples in liquid nitrogen.
Processes paperwork for shipping specimens' virus screening and isolation.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
