We are seeking an experienced laboratory scientist who has the ability to perform a dual function role supporting the automation infrastructure, as well as designing and running biochemical or cellular assays to support FORMA’s diverse portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire, experience and capability to work in both the engineering and biology space. This is a key role in FORMA’s Lead Discovery and Optimization (LDO) which is responsible for hit identification, assay design and both Hits to Leads and Lead optimization assay support. The team leverages state of the art automation and assay technologies to support a diverse array of hit identification initiatives, as well as weekly assay support to drive SAR. This is a centralized role, working across FORMA’s Drug Discovery pipeline on multiple programs.

Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate biological science and/or an appropriate engineering discipline with at least 5 years directly relevant experience
Extensive experience with fully integrated robotic platforms. Experience with advanced scheduling software to develop complex schedules supporting compound dispense through multiple-read assays with stringent timing dependencies. Direct experience with systems from High Resolution Biosystems is a significant plus
Proven track record of working with high throughput laboratory instrumentation such the Echo, Envision, Tempest and MultiDrop Combi’s for example
Experience with running biological assays in a high throughput environment, either cellular or biochemical, is essential. Additionally, experience with cell biology or biochemistry / enzymology for assay design is preferred
Must have experience with data analysis software and have the ability to independently analyze, QC and interpret data before generating reports for project teams
A desire to interface with key biology project teams to understand their challenges and develop solutions through novel assays is a key element of this role
Will be able to manage the technology infrastructure with support, coordination of maintenance and QC. Also will be able to manage new designs and builds for automated platforms through the completion of Factory and site acceptance tests.
Ability to work across multiple programs, prioritize work effectively and maintain a balance between automation support and biology-based lab work.
Responsibility for setting and maintaining the highest scientific standards, developing skill-based competence, providing flexible project support as well as coaching and mentoring team members to maximize their potential.
