Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for the position of Research Technician in the laboratory of Professor Michael Lukey.
You will become part of a team studying cancer cell metabolism and its interplay with oncogenic signaling, the tumor microenvironment, and the broader nutritional status of the host. We aim to understand how metabolic pathways become reprogrammed in cancer cells to support tumor growth, and the mechanisms through which cells sense and adapt to nutrient restrictions encountered in the local microenvironment and at metastatic sites in disparate tissues. We are especially interested in the biochemical processes underlying cellular homeostasis at different stages of tumorigenesis, and in identifying metabolic vulnerabilities that might be targeted for therapeutic benefit. To help with these efforts, we are seeking a highly motivated and curious individual to join us as a technician.
You will work in a newly renovated state-of-the-art laboratory, housing a collaborative group of researchers studying diverse aspects of cancer biology from the molecular to the organismal level. You will have the ability to grow as a part of this team and to make important contributions to both the research and the infrastructure.
The ideal candidate should have experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques. In addition, the candidate should have strong organizational skills and experience in using and maintaining data spreadsheets. Applications are encouraged from candidates planning to apply to medical school or graduate research programs in the future.
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related discipline is required. Experience: Experience in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques including PCR is essential. Work might involve the use of mouse models of disease, and willingness to handle animals is desirable. Comprehensive skills in data handling and excellent record keeping are equally important.
Skills: Must be curious, highly motivated, very organized, and team oriented.
