The primary purpose of the position is to assist in 1) molecular biology and functional studies in human airway epithelial cells (both primary cultures and cell lines) to evaluate the effect of pharmacological or genetic manipulation of signaling pathways relevant to airway inflammatory responses; and 2) generation of data reports and analyses.
Scientific techniques include but are not limited to: RNA/DNA isolation and extraction, genotyping, PCR/RT-PCR, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, mammalian cell culture techniques, and good command of general laboratory procedures. A key component of this position includes data entry, record keeping, sample cataloging and archiving, and compliance with health and safety procedures.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
The employee must have demonstrated experience with 1) ELISA, PCR/RT-PCR, Western blots, gel electrophoresis, RNA/DNA isolation and extraction, mammalian cell culture techniques, and genotyping, 2) human primary cultures and human cell lines, 3) experience with Microsoft Office, and 4) working semi-independently and as a team player. The employee must be able to work with biological safety level 2 (BSL2) infectious agents (bacterial and viral). The employee must have demonstrated abilities in effective communication skill, i.e., be able to write and speak proficiently in English. The employee must be willing to follow established lab safety procedures and be diligent about maintaining laboratory records.
Prefer candidate with a Bachelor's degree or higher in physiology, molecular biology, or related disciplines, and the degree must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Familiarity with E-procurement system for ordering, statistical analysis to report results and to assist with data interpretation for grants, abstracts, articles, and presentations. Expected to semi-independently and effectively evaluate protocols/techniques most appropriate for the task at hand, learn new methods when necessary, and plan for the studies to be performed in the lab. Ability to query scientific literature web-based resources (PubMed).
The employee must be willing to undertake training in general techniques to be proficient in mouse studies involving intratracheal instillation, bronchoalveolar lavage and lung tissue collection.
