TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE , Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Love Lab , to enable and execute experiments focused on microbial strain development as part of a multidisciplinary team who are part of a larger initiative developing an integrated platform to manufacture therapeutic recombinant proteins using a microbial host. Duties will include molecular cloning for plasmid construction, production of competent cells and subsequent electroporation for strain creation, strain characterization by RT-PCR and next generation sequencing, shake flask cultivation of yeast for strain assessment, protein quantification and characterization following cultivation (including SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA) and the implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures and data records related to this research.

REQUIRED : B.S (M.S. desirable) in a relevant scientific field (engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology); at least two years' specialized lab experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate); industrial/academic laboratory experience; experience with primer design, molecular cloning, and synthetic biology tools; background in protein analytical techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blot, dot blot, ELISA); excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; proactive approach to work; commitment producing accurate and reproducibly high-quality work; awareness of basic safety issues/procedures for maintaining a safe work environment; and a focus on continued skill building and career development. Must be able to multitask, prioritize multiple experiments/assignments simultaneously, work with and maintain technical instruments/equipment, function independently and collaboratively, liaise with investigators, and document effective protocols. A background in microbial cultivation and sterile technique, experience with automated liquid handling, and a prior publication record are preferred. Job #17273
