Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will assist in managing the laboratory and conducting basic research in the area of melanocyte and melanoma biology. The incumbent will be responsible for working with small research rodents and performing patient-derived xenograft transfers, blood collection from live research animals, advanced imaging of skin tissues in live animals, and processing and analyzing tissues collected from animals for IHC, RNA in situ hybridization, western blotting, and single cell sequencing. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the mouse colony and all applicable protocols (IACUC, rDNA, etc) and performing genotyping. The incumbent will also be the laboratory safety officer and ensure that the lab members have the appropriate training which is up to date. Incumbent must have the ability to process and analyze data for scientific interpretation and publication and be experienced working with Excel, Graph Pad Prism and flow cytometry analysis software. Experience with coding in R would be preferable, but not a must. The Incumbent must collaborate with multiple members of the extended research team in broad imaging and tumor growth studies including coordinating collection of clinical samples, give samples to collaborators for analysis using their platform, and to coordinate and compose quarterly reports of scientific effort. Incumbent will be responsible for training and supervising lower ranking laboratory staff, including graduate and undergraduate students, and will carry the responsibility of day-to-day laboratory management.Incumbent must be prepared to contribute original, impactful research approaches to help answer the overarching scientific questions of the lab.The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence.
