Under the supervision of the PI, the incumbent will perform research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols; compile data and compute results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques. The individual must be able to work to adapt and troubleshoot protocols. Detailed reporting of the performed work must be provided to supervisors. Experience with animal handling, qPCR, cell culture, FLOW cytometry, OCT retinal imaging and various histological methods of analysis is required. Incumbent will carry out experiments planned under supervision that involve the functional histological and molecular assessment of transplantation tissue and the in vivo outcomes of various retinal transplantation procedures. Incumbent will be responsible for training students and lab assistants in each of the techniques utilized. Incumbent must keep abreast of the technological advances in experimental methodology, animal models and equipment through research of relevant literature. Position requires significant organizational skills, as well as specific research techniques including surgery, tissue dissection, molecular biology, cell culture, histology (from immunohistochemistry and processing to EM) and microscopy techniques.The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence.
