The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Forage Seed and Cereal Research Unit seeks a Research Geneticist, GS-0440-12/13/14/15 ($74,596.00 - $160,286.00 per annum, plus benefits). The incumbent is located in Prosser, WA and conducts hop breeding research in the Yakima Valley and Willamette Valley. This opportunity represents a well-resourced public research position with existing adapted germplasm and strong support from hop growers and brewers, all focused on the goal of developing disease resistant and high yielding hop cultivars that meet brewer sensory requirements. The position has existing support for a post-doctoral scientist and two research technicians. As this is a new research position, research and program creativity will be encouraged from an accomplished or well-trained plant breeder with strong project leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities. Candidates with a strong interest in publically funded plant breeding will be well positioned for success. Opportunities exist for collaboration, as this position is part of a team with three additional scientists researching hop genomics, hop breeding, plant pathology, and abiotic stress tolerance. Final grade level may be determined by a peer review panel.
