The Cytogenetics Lab located at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist to use state-of-the-art molecular technologies to discover novel genetic and clinically useful molecular biomarkers. The Cytogenetic Technologist will be part of the laboratory team, and will be responsible for performing several wet-lab protocols on various tumor sample types. The position requires wet-bench lab experience and understanding of molecular cytogenetics.
We are seeking a Per Diem Cytogenetics Technologist who, under general supervision, will carry out cytogenetic analysis of specimens received by the laboratory.
Complete diagnostic reports while maintaining quality of work within established time frames.
Produce written, accurate diagnostic reports of analyzed cases within established turnaround time guidelines:
Leukemia/Lymphoma Karyotype: 20 days
Solid Tissue Karyotype: 24 days
Karyotype with FISH analysis: 27 days
FISH analysis only:
1 probe: 7 days
2 probes: 10 days
3 probes: 12 days
4 or more probes: 15 days
Produce preliminary report of analyzed rush cases within 72 hours of doctors request and receipt of specimen.
Produce reports with appropriate depth of analysis as per departmental guidelines.
Produce accurate reports with accurate interpretation of abnormality and accurate nomenclature.
Incorporate all available diagnostic data into the report, including, cytogenetic, histopathologic diagnosis, molecular pathology, hematology, etc.
Understand current literature as it relates to the abnormality and the clinical or tentative diagnosis.

BS in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related life sciences field required
Experience working in a cytogenetics or other clinical molecular laboratory for 1 year required
Hours of work:
Hours will vary each week as needed, but will not exceed 18hrs per week.
Hours will primarily be outside of routine operating hours, weekends and after 5pm
