Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Research Associate for the Neurosurgery Department at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the assistant director of research, or other designated Institute Member, this position is responsible to conduct scientific investigations in collaboration with other researchers and research teams; takes on initiative to manage individual research projects and independent design and execution of experiments after consultation with the assistant director of research. This position may manage subordinate staff to assist with research projects;contributes to meeting regulatory compliance (IACUC, IBC) and to the compilation of regulatoryprotocols; designs, tests and evaluates methods and protocols for research projects; analyzes, summarizes, and organizes collected data, and publishes results of investigations in professional journals; is capable of working with a high level of independence. The Senior Research Associate offers advice and brings expertise to the research team; is responsible for the scientific operations of the laboratory; and submits grant applications to obtainindependent research funding.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs various research, statistical analyses, and related operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a lab with interests in pathophysiology of temporal lobe epilepsy.
Analyzes and interprets experimental data and publishes results
Competes for independent peer-reviewed external funding; and contributes to grant applications for the assistant director of research
Supervises residents, junior research assistants, graduate students, and student workers in the lab
Actively collaborates with colleagues to develop research ideas; shares theoretical and technical expertise with colleagues; collaborates with colleagues to strategize and assess effectiveness of studies; collates and analyzes complex data
PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biology, biomedical engineering or a related discipline; postdoctoral research experience is desirable;
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements
Demonstrated competence in investigation, research and project management
Theoretical and technical knowledge of the research subject matter; demonstrate the ability to independently form hypotheses; designand perform experiments; develop new techniques and ability to conduct bench research with a low level of supervision; knowledge of computers and data analysis; ability to summarize and present research data.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, ability to multi-task, and the ability to work well with others in a team
