This post doctoral scholar position will be funded by an NIH research grant and will be funded for up to five (5) years, subject to ongoing satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The position will primarily be engaged in research into mast cell biology and signaling pathways involved in allergic diseases and asthma. In addition, the post doc will carry out research into lung structural cell and immune cell interactions and signaling pathways involved in airway physiology. The post doc must be able to work independently, but must also be able to integrate into a multidisciplinary research environment that includes multiple research groups.
Duties & Responsibilities: Performing work associated with research grants and patents, gathering preliminary data for grants and patents, writing and preparing manuscripts for publication, presenting research at conferences, assisting in graduate student training, ordering supplies and other laboratory operations.
Independently design, perform and analyze research on human, murine and canine mast cells through the utilization of cell cultures and in vivo models (mice models). Develop research methods and generate research results that will contribute toward publications and presentations. Teach students to advance their understanding of the subject matter and add to/increase current laboratory procedures skills. Train visiting researchers, students and staff in biosafety and laboratory procedures. Maintain lab safety and animal usage compliance.
Assist the PI with grant management and submission. Ordering supplies and reagents for the lab.
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.
Laboratory experience in cell isolation from human tissues and cell culture, RNA isolation and quantification, quantitative PCR, protein extraction and quantification, ELISAs, Western blotting and immunohistochemistry experience is required. Experience in calcium signaling, electrophysiology, cell signaling, confocal microscopy as well as molecular biology, transfection methods and cloning preferred.
