Full-time research position in the Automation and Intelligent Systems Division at the University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute (UTARI) assisting with research and development projects. The focus of projects is in the areas of computer vision and machine learning applied to robotics and autonomous systems. Applicants must have expertise in computer vision and machine learning. Experience in control of robotic systems is a plus. The researcher will be involved in the design, development, and testing of new technologies as well as supporting new grant/contract opportunities. The role may include assisting in establishing and developing collaborative partnerships, contributing to defining the research scope of the Division, providing some project management, and contributing to patentable ideas and patent applications. Majority of activities will involve lab work (experimental and theoretical). General Requirements:

1. Design and analysis of algorithms for computer vision, machine learning, robotics, estimation and/or control. 2. Experimental validation of algorithms on hardware platforms. 3. Identify relevant funding opportunities; contribute to or lead writing efforts (proposals, publications, reports, presentations, etc.). 4. Supervise students and interns. 5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant engineering or science discipline plus five (5) years of relevant experience; or MS in relevant engineering or science discipline plus three (3) years of relevant experience; or PhD in relevant engineering or science discipline.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant engineering or science discipline, with background in computer vision, machine learning, robotics, and/or control theory. Experience in contributing to grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: C/C++, Python, MATLAB, OpenCV, supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning, Torch, Tensorflow, GPU programming, ROS.
