This position assists with required lab/research experiments designed by the Principal Investigator and/or tests as defined in the research protocols. This role is integral in the daily management of the research laboratory with planning methods, caring for the physical aspects of the research laboratory and applying appropriate techniques and procedures.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
This research is being conducted under the auspices of the Department of Biology, the primary purpose of which is to train professional biologists in the nature of scientific investigations, the principles of biology and the value of scientific enterprise. The goals and objectives of the Department are to prepare students for careers and research opportunities in industry, government, and graduate programs in the biological sciences; to prepare students for admission to professionals schools; to prepare students to teach biology at the secondary school level; to provide courses in biology that fulfill the general education core requirements of the University; to provide cognate courses for students majoring in or receiving certification in other fields; to act as a resource to the University and community through cooperative programs, workshops, seminars, course offerings, and public service; to conduct research and scholarly activity in the areas of biology, biotechnology, computational biology and biology education; and to provide students with resultant practical experience in the application of biological research.

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
BS degree (MS degree strongly preferred) in the biological sciences. Experience working with animals, especially mice, is a plus. Knowledge of basic molecular biology tools, and ability to learn new skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as part of a team, but also the ability to work independently as necessary to achieve research objectives; and a willingness to work with graduate and undergraduate students on research projects.
