As a member of the University of Michigan-Dearborn External Relations team the Multimedia Designer joins a team responsible for promoting the mission, vision, reputation and brand of the university through media, publications, marketing efforts and electronic communications. Working under the supervision of the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing the designer will develop a wide variety of print and electronic projects, working to ensure all materials communicate with consistency the university's key messages and brand.
The Multimedia Designer is responsible for the creative ideation, development and execution of communications materials, including collateral, graphic identity and infographic work applicable to both print and digital. The Multimedia Designer takes projects from concept development to final execution, presenting ideas and status throughout the process. The Multimedia Designer will create assets consistent with the university's graphic identity standards. Depending on the project, the Multimedia Designer also may collaborate with and/or source additional resources.
The desired candidate must be able to work as a member of a communications and marketing team with daily interactions and collaborations with professionals across campus. The candidate must maintain positive communications by proactively anticipating and negotiating solutions to potential challenges. Excellent time-management and self-directed work style are expected, as is the ability to manage many projects simultaneously. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and commitment to high standards are essential to success.

Develop collateral/marketing materials to support university efforts, including brand awareness, undergraduate and graduate recruitment, college marketing, alumni and fundraising communication.
Manage the university brand standards, developing materials to support their use across campus, including logo development, templates for university-wide efforts, campus banners and additional promotional materials.
Design print and digital advertising to support university advertising goals and community outreach efforts.
Oversee university digital media library, including taking campus photos, when necessary, providing creative direction on university photo shoots and developing a concise library of images that convey the UM-Dearborn brand.
Work with the university web team to develop needed graphics and images.
Support the university video strategy by developing bookends for use on videos and providing creative direction on video shoots.
Provide creative direction to selected vendors on university design projects, including advertising campaigns, Legacy magazine, and ongoing marketing efforts.
Manage production process including preparing projects for production, utilizing the university procurement system to bid projects and select vendors, attending press checks and ensuring delivery.
Additional projects, as assigned, based on expertise and need
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field
A minimum of 5 years graphic design/production experience
Must have strong skills in print design, which can be executed among a variety of media and platforms, including web and digital
Must be able to conceptualize, storyboard and utilize video and photos in storytelling.
Must understand all phases of print production including prepress techniques, file prep, color management/proofing and distribution.
Must be highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Acrobat Pro. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite a plus.
Proven ability to provide design rationale
