Clemson's Student-Assistant Program: Clemson's Athletic programs are an integral part of the University and its educational mission. Hundreds of students are provided opportunities to learn and develop skills, be a part of a winning program, and gain valuable experiences that will serve them well in whatever profession they choose. Students participate as athletes on highly competitive teams or as assistants within a multitude of support areas charged with improving competitive excellence and student-athlete welfare. Similar to student-athletes, student-assistants are under the direction of and receive instruction from a full-time staff member. It is expected that student-assistants are first and foremost successful students. To that end, staff supervisors are charged with emphasizing the academic success of student-assistants, serving as mentors to students under their supervision, and providing them with supplemental learning opportunities through their assistantships.
Neither positions as student-athletes nor as student-assistants are employment opportunities. While financial aid may be provided to offset educational expenses, no student-athlete or student-assistant should expect to receive compensation for the positions they hold within the team or the support area. There should also be no expectation of employment following the conclusion of the assistantship.
