The GEAR UP Wyoming Tutor at Lee Middle & High will provide tutoring services and support to students in the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Wyoming program. This position works with a cohort of 8th grade students at Godfrey Lee Middle & High School.
The GEAR UP Wyoming Tutor must be knowledgeable about math interventions and success strategies for middle school students. This position requires regular communication with students, parents, and faculty through email, phone, and face-to-face contacts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Organize in-class and after-school academic tutoring services
Input and report student data on Performance Insights platform.
Support program assessment and evaluation as necessary.
Participate in meetings with middle school and high school staff as necessary.
Support the development of non-cognitive skills that are essential for academic success and college persistence (e.g. resilience, self-regulation, and social comfort) among program participants.
Implement and enforce academic goals and disciplinary procedures related to the policies of the City of Wyoming schools and Grand Rapids Community College.
Provide individualized support based on assessed needs and barriers to ensure students gain self-confidence in their academic abilities
Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.
Bachelor’s degree attained or in process in math or math education
Current licensure/certification in math preferred
Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Team player who maintains a positive working relationship with co-workers.
Must be proficient in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds.
Must use good judgment in handling sensitive or difficult situations.
Project a professional image including punctuality and good attendance record.
Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving abilities, and resourcefulness.
Ability to work independently.
Must be self-motivated, dependable, professional and courteous.
Prior experience in working with diverse low-income and/or first-generation students preferred
Prior experience with middle school students preferred
Prior experience teaching K-12, counseling, or tutoring preferred.
Knowledge of data reporting systems; experience with data tracking and preparing reports preferred.
Knowledge of ALEKS online math support preferred
