Perform laboratory tasks and complete routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures.
Specific duties & responsibilities: The laboratory studies molecular recognition and regulation of human innate immune pathways. We use a variety of techniques including molecular biological techniques, X-ray crystallography and other structural biological and biophysical techniques. The candidate will be expected to have basic laboratory experience, including experience with biochemical calculations. Must be able to learn various laboratory techniques by instruction and self-motivation. Will be responsible for ordering laboratory supplies and some maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Under the supervision of the faculty investigator, the candidate should be able to carry out experiments without close supervision. Should be able to carry documented protocols without close supervision. Compile and analyze research data using various computer software applications. May be asked to participate in editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication. The individual may be responsible for training of more junior laboratory members. Oversees and assures laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements and JHU standards, policies and procedures.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
