Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine. Under the direction of the principal investigator, conducts highly specialized and technical research involving animal models of cardiovascular disease.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Under the daily guidance and design of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will execute studies in tissue culture and mice models.
The molecular techniques involved mainly include, culturing primary cells and cell lines, Western Blotting, chromatin immunoprecipitation, cloning, gene mutagenesis, immunocytochemistry, and microscopy.
Animal work will include handling mice for sacrifice and harvesting of organs according to the National Institute of Health guidelines and protocols approved by Rutgers animal care committee.
This point is very critical, the work in the lab requires attention to fine details, high organizational skills, meticulousness, and precise calculations of concentrations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a related field required.
Must possess good organization and documentation skills and must demonstrate good communication skills in English.
Must be comfortable working quickly and accurately in a stressful, deadline-driven work environment.
Must be able to prioritize and quickly learn new techniques and work independently, with careful attention to detail.
Must be able to work additional hours on short notice when necessary to meet key deadlines.
Must be continuously accessible by email.
1-3 years of research experience preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment. Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
WORKENVIRONMENT: Must be available to work flexible hours, including overtime on short notice and some weekends and holidays. May require working with radioactive materials.
