Job ID: 2019-10820 Type: Full-Time # of Openings: 1 Category: Research and Laboratory
The Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics seeks applicants for a Research Specialist I to join the laboratory of Joshua Rabinowitz. Our lab aims to obtain a quantitative understanding of metabolism in eukaryotes ranging from yeasts to mice. More specifically, our bioenergy-oriented goal is to identify metabolic regulation in model and non-model yeasts, with the overarching goal of applying this knowledge to guide metabolic engineering design for biofuel production. This is achieved by applying liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) and isotope-tracing-informed flux analysis, methods in which the lab is a world leader, to model and non-model bioenergy-relevant yeasts.
The position is open and review of applications will begin immediately. This will be a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance. Salary will include the full benefits package.
Specific duties include:
Maintain yeast cultivation system and conduct chemostat culture experiments
- Prepare, monitor, collect yeast culture.
- Sample preparation and basic measurements for flux analysis.
Basic data analysis and visualization
- perform LC-MS and other data analysis and/or visualization.
Maintaining yeast strains
- Receive, revive, and store strains from collaborator labs.
- Bachelors degree in related field.
- Basic knowledge in biochemistry and mathematics.
- Strong attention to detail, good habits in note-taking, extra care in data analysis.
- Good time management and experimental planning.
Other relevant (but not required) experience:
- Experience working with yeast culture.
- Experience working with mass spectrometry.
- Programming (matlab, R).
The final candidate will be required to pass a background check.
