About the Opportunity: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to apply advanced optical microscopy for investigating disease-related changes in cerebral energy metabolism, neurovascular signaling, and neuroimmune interactions. The postdoctoral fellow will develop and apply novel optical microscopy technologies to explore these pathophysiological hallmarks at the cellular level in preclinical rodent models of Alzheimer's disease. The fellow will also determine how prospective preventative and therapeutic methods influence cerebral metabolism and neuroimmunity. Additional responsibilities include assistance with lab management, ordering supplies, maintaining protocols, writing manuscripts and training both graduate and undergraduate students.
Assist in initiating, executing, and completing preclinical research and experiments (70%)
Prepare and write research papers, presentations (20%)
Laboratory management (10%)
Train graduate students (5%)
Qualifications: Prospective candidates must be highly motivated with strong technical skills and experience with biomedical optics. A Ph.D. in engineering, physics, neuroscience, or related field, is required. Strong analytical skills, independent motivation, and creativity are essential for this project.
Proficiency with programming (primarily MATLAB and C/C++), willingness to work with animal models, and strong written and oral English communication skills are required. Applicants must be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively. Detailed knowledge of optical imaging techniques such as multiphoton microscopy or optical coherence tomography and/or neuroscience is a considerable asset, as is experience with animal experiments.
