The Research and Grants Program Office has a new position for a Research Grant Program Officer in the Tobacco Related Disease Research Program. The successful applicant will join a team of 4 other full-time program officers, a director, and support staff in sunny Oakland, California.
This program officer will oversee the TRDRP portfolio of biological chemistry/toxicology (eg: smoke/vape toxicity, environmental impact of smoking/vaping product waste, toxicology or exposure science of smoking/vaping products) and a subset of biomedical sciences (eg: cancer, cardiovascular, pulmonary, neuroscience, or oral diseases). Please note, there are 2 other Biomedical Science Program Officers. Due to Proposition 56, which imposed an additional $2 tax on tobacco products (including vaping devices), TRDRP has around $60 million a year to award in grants to California not-for-profit organizations.
Now is a critical time in tobacco control research, as new products are coming to market, claims of harm reduction are being made, and acute health effects of vaping are being reported. Also there is an intersection between cannabis and tobacco which is particularly detrimental to our youth. Our team cares very deeply about the social justice aspect of our work and we support research to end tobacco related health disparities.
UC offers employees a comprehensive compensation package, including competitive salaries and a full range of benefits, services and programs.
