Rutgers the State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Research Associate I for the Department of Medicine within the Center for Immunity & Inflammation. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Assistant Professor), the primary purpose of the Research Associate I position is to perform specialized research activities, design and execute advanced immunology-focused experimental procedures and to assist in the generation and submission of grant proposals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Designs, discusses, and performs diverse experimental models and techniques related to the study of innate cells.
Contributes to general laboratory operations, including breeding and genotyping of mice and general maintenance of animal colonies.
Develops new ideas for promoting current research for the NJMS – Department of Medicine and the Center for Immunity and Inflammation.
Operates and maintains experimental equipment.
Records and analyzes data from experiments.
Contributes to the development of performance standards, selection of methodology, instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Assistant Professor).
Assists with the preparation and submission of grant proposals to the National Institutes of Health and other independent funding sources as directed by the Principal Investigator (Assistant Professor).
Attends training courses as directed by the Principal Investigator (Assistant Professor) to help advance the research interests and visibility of the laboratory and related research projects.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or equivalent in a Biological Science or in a related field plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Extensive experience performing experimental research relevant to the field of immunology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prior experience in multi-color flow cytometry and mouse models of infectious diseases.
Experience with innate cells including neutrophils and monocytes.
Ability to work in a team environment and work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional experience in and next-generation sequencing methodology (e.g. RNA-seq) .
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.
Salary: Maximum authorized hiring amount $70,000
