Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
PhD (Foreign equivalent or higher degree) in a scientific field. Experience with mass spectrometry. Three (3) years experience in operation of mass spectrometers in the analysis of small molecules/ metabolites or proteins to include at least one year of experience following attainment of a doctoral degree. Three (3) years of experience in the field of either small molecule/metabolomics or proteomics.
Knowledge of common chromatographic strategies (RP, SCX, ANP). Experience with Agilent, Thermo and Sciex platform. Strong mechanical knowledge of MS and HPLC equipment.
Brief Description of Duties:
Stony Brook University is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Research Scientist for an immediate opening in the Biological Mass Spectrometry shared resource in the Office of Scientific Affairs. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a team environment in addition to being able to effectively plan and execute work independently. In this position, the incumbent will participate in research in the areas of metabolomics/ proteomics/ lipidomics mass spectrometry.
Conduct technical tasks and laboratory experiments using established or project-specific protocols and SOPs.
Conduct experimental work on projects following established protocols and procedures.
Design novel experimental designs and workflows.
Develop new analytical methods.
Interact with and advise investigators with regards to experiments.
Maintain and operate Thermo, Sciex and Agilent mass spectrometers.
Track and submit both billing and purchasing information.
Draft monthly/final reports for small projects or projects requiring routine analysis and testing.
Other duties as assigned.
