Academic Advisor - School of Engineering - (19001873)
The primary purpose of the Department of Computer Science (CS) is teaching undergraduate and graduate students and conducting research. The department is highly research active with multiple locations, including the main departmental offices in Halligan Hall and research lab and office spaces at 196 and 200 Boston Ave. The CS department has an annual operational budget (institutional and grant) totaling over $20 million. Undergraduate enrollments in Computer Science have increased dramatically over the past several years, from 35 graduating seniors in 2010 to 167 in 2019. In the 2018-2019 academic year, there were 604 students pursuing a BSCS or BACS degree (186 within the School of Engineering). The department recently added a new BS in Data Science major which is currently being pursued by 18 students. In total, the CS department educates approximately 625 undergraduate students. CS has surpassed the Departments of Economics and International Relations as the biggest major across the Schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering.
The Academic Advisor is responsible for all aspects of advising of undergraduate students in the CS department. Advises and counsels students on academic program of study; monitors student academic progress and identifies students of concern. Collaborates with faculty advisors and other advising staff. Writes and updates advising guides and other resource materials. Manages undergraduate student records and student-related academic processes.
Bachelor's degree in science, math, or engineering.
Experience in academic advising, mentorship, or education.
Master's degree in STEM or education disciplines.
