Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician, for the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the conduct and execution of research experiments following the instructions given by the Principal Investigator of the laboratory team. This will include supporting the research of Principal Investigators and senior members of the laboratory. In additional the technician is expected to attend laboratory conferences and learn appropriate scientific methods and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Culturing mammalian cell lines and humans induced pluripotent stem cells and embryonic stem cells.
Performing standard experiments in the lab: Microscopy, electrophoresis, PCR, western blotting, ChIPseq.
Assists in packing, unpacking, storing and classification of lab supplies and specimens.
Attends laboratory meetings, journal clubs and other educational activities.
Maintains laboratory notebooks and laboratory resources.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in a relevant science.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain general laboratory functions is desired, must be able to maintain accurate records, follow laboratory safety guidelines and institutional policies.
Must successfully complete mandatory lab safety/shipping training courses, as required by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Effective oral and communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
BS or BA in Biological Science.
Prior laboratory experience in assisting and or performing experiments including animal handling and molecular biology.
Occasional overtime flexibility is required.
